Message from our President, Joe Buttram

Greetings to my colleagues. Fall is here and we can expect some colorful leaves in time for our  fall meeting scheduled for October 25. Hope to see you there.

We will have on the agenda a variety of topics, including a continued discussion of the case to be made for the importance of live music, its contribution to Lewisburg as a Certified Art Community and to the Greenbrier Valley as a tourist destination. Come join in the discussion.                                                                                    Joe Buttram

Member Profile:  Gregg “KC” Cozart

I was born in Beckley, WV, I was adopted by a coal miner and his family the same year. I had a dim chance for survival due to malnutrition. After months, and endless repetitive medications/vitamin therapy I beat all the odds. I grew up and around Southern WV, and was exposed to a lot of various musical genres from good ole fashion Gospel, Bluegrass, and Saturday nights spent listening to WSM Nashville, I developed a great interest in playing music myself.
I started playing guitar seriously around 1974, then later learned banjo, mandolin. I started playing local clubs as a lead guitarist for many different bands all over WV, VA, and a wide assortment of styles. After many years of paying my dues with different groups and artists, I decided to set out on my own and formed what is now know as
Newgrass Review. A lot of my earlier influences included such groups as The Seldom Scene, Tony Rice, The Lilly Brothers (Who I also played guitar for). And adding some country styles in the mix developed our different style of Newgrass.
I guess I have to say that I had a lot of support from 2 dear friends who opened a lot of doors in Nashville for me, Charles Lilly (Everette Lilly's son, also bass player for Johnny Russel, Joe Diffie, Billy Walker). KMA Records President Keith Bradford (Formerly Kitty Well's Band leader and Bass Player up until her retirement). I was signed with KMA Records Nashville in 2001 and have been with the label since then.
I currently moved back to WV from Nashville, for some time to develop more music in a less fast paced lifestyle. Currently I have 5 albums to complete for the label. I joined local 674 in 2001 and our local is always going to be home for me.
