Volume 18 Number 2                                                                                                                                                        April 2008

Greetings to the membership! I will comment on two of our sometimes not-so-favorite topics, dues and work dues.

Dues. Thanks for the excellent response in paying dues for 2008. We have received dues from 36  members, including a couple of returning members we are glad to welcome back! Thus, our level of membership for the year will be maintained and we will have the financial strength to function properly.

Work Dues. We have major news in this regard. Cathey Sawyer has agreed to pay work dues for union players working at GVT events; consider this small amount a bit of a raise! This will apply to 2007 and 2008 and these musicians may consider work dues for these jobs paid.

Being shamed into compliance myself, I have paid work dues for 2007 for "The Washington Street Strutters" and will continue this practice. I suggest that other "leaders" consider handling work dues in this manner. And, if we choose, we can pass this small, added expense on to the customer. This practice would, then, leave much less for individual members to pay. We can, of course, discuss this.

See you on April 20! Let me know how you feel! Joe Buttram

April  Meeting

With the help of co-funding from the AFM’s Assistance Program for Casual/Club-Date Musicians, Local 674 will soon have a new website. Sec-Treasurer Williams applied for the grant from the AFM and received $239.40, the maximum Local 674 was eligible to receive.  The money will be used to purchase web hosting from www.goprohosting.com and also to purchase some advertising for the site. (Dena Williams has been paying for the hosting service for the web site at www.local674-AFM.com, thank you Dena). Dena will be the Webmaster for the new site and will transfer most of the information from the old site soon.  GoProHosting is provided by the AFM and will allow Local 674 to be more closely aligned with the AFM.  The AFM Quartet Software Suite will allow:  1. A complete website 2. Automated on-line administration (registration and membership status verification) and a Private Members’ Area  3.  An on-line booking referral service utilizing data “served” from the AFM’s GoPro Music database 4. Full on-line content management of all text/graphics.  All of these changes will not happen overnight, so be patient and continue to check in at www.local674-afm.com and www.afm674.org.
